- Power Up 2nd Edition is a primary-aged English course (Pre A1 – B1) published by Cambridge University Press & Assessment.
It’s designed to help young learners not just learn English, but also build life skills, collaborate, and reflect on their own learning. - Key Features:
Start Smart (Pre-A1):
– Very foundational / introductory — designed for pre-literacy or early English learners.
– Uses Missions to introduce simple, real-world language early on.
– Builds early life-competency skills through collaboration and reflection.
– Includes exam vocabulary for young learners (related to Cambridge English Qualifications for Starters).
Levels 1–4:
– Strong alignment with Cambridge English Qualifications for young learners (Pre A1 Starters, A1 Movers, A2 Flyers) — vocabulary lists and exam-style tasks are embedded.
– Over 100 new videos and grammar / language-practice content help make grammar “stick” through songs, dialogues, etc.
– Missions become more creative and multi-stage; students collaborate on more complex tasks.
– Cross-curricular content (through sustainability framework) is more present.
– Self-reflection via the Mission Diary in the Activity Book helps learners evaluate and internalize their progress.
Levels 5–6:
– Increased exam-preparation: the Teacher’s Digital Pack for these levels includes “Test & Train Mini” for A2 Key for Schools and B1 Preliminary for Schools.
– Integrated assessment remains, but there’s a stronger focus on higher-level exam tasks (reading, writing, listening, speaking) to push toward B1.
– Missions are more mature / real-world, with students applying more language and cognitive skills.
– Develops higher-level life competencies (e.g., more reflection, self-evaluation, collaboration on complex tasks).
– Digital Pack still offers Practice Extra, videos, flashcards, but the speech-recognition activities may be more advanced / appropriate for higher levels.
